This tale of abandonment and family relationships leads us to hope for the heroine, a girl who never thought she was worthy of being loved like she deserved. It teaches us that truth is bigger than time and that friendship crosses all boundaries of circumstance and ways of life. It is never too late to start again. Inspirational and heart-wrenching, Painted Rocks, is a story for young and old, for mothers and their daughters, for anyone who has ever gone to lengths to conceal the past, only to find that it can never really be laid to rest.
(Author's Insight on Painted Rocks: I wrote this story as a new mother of three, while my third child was just an infant. The character of Sunny struck a chord with me, both as a mother and as a daughter. She makes terrible mistakes and irreversible decisions, yet she makes an unlikely success out of her life. I want young people to be inspired by Sunny, to know that there is hope in even bleak circumstances, and I want other mothers to be as touched by this story as I was in writing it. The last page of this book includes the names and contact information for groups that help young people like Sunny. These fine organizations lent their support to Painted Rocks to help my publisher and I accomplish the goal of providing true guidance to the youth reading it. I hope you enjoy this, my debut novel. ----Kimberly Ann Freel )
Little known Trivia About Painted Rocks: The cat featured on the front cover belongs to Kimberly, who also did the cover design. Her name is Roxanne, and in the original picture the kitty is staring at a June bug! |
